About THE BAND

GENERATION GAP combines Classic and Contemporary Rock with R & B, blues, and funk dance rhythms featuring our rocker vocalist, Christy Lane. Christy, a powerful performing soloist, is joined by local artists Gary Liwanag on vocals and drums, Doug Shelton on Saxes and Synthesizer, Robert Barr on bass and lead guitars and Jim Miller on lead guitar.

CHRISTY LANE...

...Up and coming rocker vocalist Christy Lane is a Bay area born Generation X’er. Singing traditional gospel in her grandfather’s church as a kid sparked her love for music. Her loud vocals paved the way for many opportunities including announcing for a TV cartoon sitcom! Growing up in Lodi, she began learning symphonic band percussion, drum kit playing and was very active in drama, starring in many musicals one being the notorious Rizzo in the stage production of “Grease”! Throughout the years Christy has continued her love for music by singing as a soloist at special events. Christy and her husband moved to San Luis Obispo 10 years ago where they have started a family. By joining Generation Gap she will be touching the hearts of rockers up and down the coast with her powerful and soulful vocals. She’s never met a microphone she didn’t like and loves to engage with the crowd!

DOUG SHELTON...

...(Boomer generation) on saxes, EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) and vocals originally hails from Chicago but the central coast has been home now for over thirty years. Formerly playing professionally in the greater Chicago area while attending school, Doug continued to play locally upon arrival with various bands including the Latin jazz group Jazz Foray and the Five Cities Five.

GARY LIWANAG...

...(Boomer generation) on drums and lead vocals hails from Arroyo Grande having graduated from AGHS, attended Cuesta College and graduating from Cal Poly participating in their music programs. He was a dynamic saxophone player but settled in on the drums early on to be able to let loose on his vocals. Gary has been a member of a host of local bands including Lone Star. His mother was a respected jazz vocalist in her own right and Gary carries on the tradition belting out lead vocals while “rocking steady” on the drums!

JIM "STICK" MILLER...

...Jim "Stick" Miller has been a guitaraholic for almost 50 years. He has played in rock, blues, and country bands on the central coast since the '60's that include Lone Star with Gary Liwanag, Country Pie, Apricot also with Gary Liwanag, The Pozo River Bottom Band, Flashback, and many others. His music muse has recently moved from those genres into jazz which he successfully plays now in the jazz guitar trio, Two plus One for the Road. Jim is a longtime resident of the Central Coast and retired from a distinguished career as teacher, principal and administrator within the San Luis school district.

BOB BARR...

...is a long time resident of the Central Coast performing in many rock bands. He is currently the lead guitarist for the local country rock band, Rough House, based in Cambria and had joined Generation Gap on bass guitar and lead guitarist to add to his musical experiences as he loves to perform. Bob also plays and records with the local rock band, Myxolydian,  playing all original tunes. Bob migrated from New York to California in the 70s playing in many bands on guitar, bass and keyboards from jazz to rock up all along the California Coast.
